Greece and Italy tighten entry requirements on travel from the UK

This week, a number of European countries have tightened their restrictions on entry from the UK. Italy and Greece are the latest to announce changes to their testing requirements.

Tests for vaccinated passengers to Italy

As of today, 16th December, all people travelling to Italy from the UK and EU countries - including those who are fully vaccinated - are required to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test before entry. This can either be an antigen test taken up to 24h before departure or a PCR test taken within 48h of travel.

In addition, non vaccinated travelers must self-isolate for 5 days upon arrival. They can end quarantine after 5 days upon receipt of a negative test result.

Greece will require a PCR test from Sunday

From Sunday 19th December at 6am, all travelers to Greece will need to present a negative PCR test before entry, regardless of vaccination status. The test must be taken up to 48h before arrival and must be a PCR test.

This is an additional requirement as a reaction to the prevalence of the new Omicron variant. Fully vaccinated travelers were previously able to enter Greece without a test but this will no longer be the case.
